Bristol has been ranked fourteenth in a list of top UK cities for finding free parking in the city centre. Research by CarFinance 247 revealed the ten best and ten worst places to avoid paying for parking, with Bristol falling just outside these shortlists.
Using data from freeparkingspots.co.uk, the car finance experts analysed forty of the most popular urban travel destinations to find out which offered the greatest number of free city centre parking spaces, as well as which offered the least.
The survey claimed that there are five streets in central Bristol where drivers can park for free – Cromwell Road, Oxford Place, Barton Manor, Richmond Street and Gladstone Street – putting it close to the middle of the pack. Cities beating Bristol included Huddersfield in first place, Warwick in second and Southampton in third.
Huddersfield offers drivers eleven streets of free parking, all within walking distance of the city centre and many of which are close to the city’s main train station. Warwick offers ten streets with unrestricted parking and Southampton nine.
Other cities falling just outside the top ten for most free parking were St Albans in eleventh place, Bridlington in twelfth and Blackpool in thirteenth. But drivers in plenty of other places fare worse than here including Manchester, Nottingham and Birmingham, which took the first to third spots on the survey’s list of stingiest cities offering the least free parking.
Louis Rix, COO and co-founder of CarFinance 247, said: “At a time when the cost of living itself is astronomical, we’re all looking for ways to cut costs – but it need not mean that day trips should be off the table. It also doesn’t mean that you can’t visit some of the UK’s best destinations.
“What’s more, all of Britain’s major cities offer free activities to try out, whether taking in the views or visiting a free gallery or museum. Enjoy the thrill of driving and days out without the stress of including parking costs in your budget. You may just want to leave early to grab one of those precious free parking spaces.”
