A-road near M4 closed after two-car crash

A two-car crash on a key A-road in South Gloucestershire has caused major delays in the area this evening (Friday, January 14).

The crash happened at around 5.20pm on the A46 in Cold Ashton, South Gloucestershire, and National Highways teams along with Avon and Somerset Police are at the scene.

The 2.4-mile road from the M4 motorway to the scene has been closed, according to National Highways, with diversions in place in the area.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that there were no serious injuries in the crash – one person suffered a cut to the head.

However, the road has had to be closed this evening to allow for the recovery of the two vehicles on the single-track A-road.

Police and National Highways teams are operating diversions in the area for local people within the closure zone.

National Highways said in a statement on their website: “The A46 in South Gloucestershire is closed in both directions between the A420 (near Cold Ashton) and the M4 J18 due to a collision involving two vehicles.

“Emergency services including Avon and Somerset Police are in attendance, and recovery has been arranged.

“National Highways contractors will be attending to assist in clearing debris from the road surface.”
