ADVERTORIAL: Care home residents in Bristol roll up for a trip to the circus

Residents at sister care homes in Bristol have been out and about enjoying ice-skating, a visit to Cheddar, and even a trip to the circus.

Part of the family-run Kew Care Group, the Manor Cottage and Cleeve Lodge are sister care homes in Frenchay and Downend.

Both services are rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission and provide the very best possible care to older individuals.

Kew Care Group spokesperson Amanda Sloper said: “After a strange couple of years, the residents are really loving the recent trips out to the wider community.

“A daily programme of activities is delivered by our dedicated Wellbeing Co-ordinators, while outings are arranged according to resident choice and completing lifelong wishes.

“Our wheelchair ice-skating at Cribbs Causeway was truly a sight to behold and enjoyed by many who hadn’t ventured onto the ice in years and we can’t wait to do another trip this year.

“Some of our residents even made it onto the local TV news!”

Stimulating diary

Events and trips maintain the many community links that the Manor Cottage and Cleeve Lodge have forged over the years.

From day-to-day activities in the home to trips to the local pubs, there’s a stimulating diary so all residents can choose to join in with something that they may enjoy.

Just last week, an intrepid group of Cleeve Lodge residents went to Circus Montini on the Downs and had a wonderful time in their front-row seats.

Meanwhile, the Manor Cottage hosted a pub quiz, complete with a pint of beer or a glass of fizz, which went down very well with residents, staff and families alike.

Amanda smiled: “It’s always wonderful to see everyone together at social occasions like these.

“Residents choose where they would like to go as part of their involvement in the day-to-day running of their home.

“Afternoon tea at Clevedon was another recent hit and a visit to Cheddar was delightful.

“It’s great to link events and trips to nostalgic reminiscence sessions at the home so that those residents who find it harder to get out and about can also share the fun.

“For instance, afternoon tea discussions often focus on whether the jam layer or the cream should go onto a scone first!

“Next on the residents’ wishlist is an overnight stay in a lodge with a hot tub which will undoubtedly be fabulous.”

Both care homes offer a high standard of individualised care that includes a range of stimulating activities to ensure residents are still living their lives to the full.

The Manor Cottage is a 15th century Listed building set in a wonderful location within walking distance of Frenchay Church and Common.

It’s been providing care for older people for many years in its beautiful and secluded spot.

Cleeve Lodge is a wonderful character building that has also been home to many older people.

The house is right next to the playing fields in Downend and continues to be carefully looked after to provide a real home from home.

Staff members work closely with residents and their families to make sure they live the most independent lives they possibly can and are supported but also encouraged by the friendly team, 24 hours a day.
