Best photos from Balloon Fiesta’s first morning flypast

Bristol was treated to an incredible spectacle this morning as around 30 colourful hot air balloons took to the skies above the city.

Details of the ascent, including the location, were kept under wraps until just before lift-off to avoid large crowds gathering amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Instead, people were urged to stay at home and enjoy the balloons from their gardens, windows and doorsteps as the balloons set off from Elm Park in Filton.

This was the first event as part of the ‘Fiesta Fortnight’, which is replacing the traditional Bristol International Balloon Fiesta this year. Over the coming weeks there will be a number of flypasts to enjoy, weather permitting, of course.

Bristol Live reporter Tristan Cork was lucky enough to join the crew in the unmistakable Thatchers balloon for a Facebook Live broadcast while our photographers took some cracking snaps from another basket.
