Boots has confirmed it is “reviewing” the future of its Whitchurch pharmacy weeks after announcing a Clifton branch will close.
Reports have circulated that Boots is planning to permanently shut its Ridgeway Lane store on May 1.
When we asked the chain if the reports are correct, a spokeswoman said: “Closing a pharmacy is never an easy decision, nor one we take lightly.
“We can confirm we’re currently reviewing this store, but no plans have been confirmed yet.”
Earlier this month we revealed the Boots on Whiteladies Road, near the junction with Apsley Road, will close down on May 9, with jobs to move to nearby branches.
One customer at the Ridgeway Lane store said she is concerned about the potential closure of the “very busy” pharmacy.
She described herself as a “vulnerable person” who has been relying on Boots during the “chaos” of the coronavirus pandemic.
The woman said: “The nearest pharmacies are Asda in-store, Lloyds the chemist, a small shop next to the local clinic or Stockwood.
“For me, being well over the age of consent, this means a car ride instead of a walk. I am not amused.”
The Boots spokeswoman said: “Our pharmacies are facing unprecedented challenges at the moment, but we are focused on helping people get the advice, healthcare, medicine and essential products that they need.”
We have asked Boots how many jobs could be at risk at the Ridgeway Lane pharmacy.
