Fans reacted with delirium to the famous result, leaving some pubs and bars calling for fans to keep their cool and avoid a repeat of the scenes that saw furniture damaged and drinks thrown amid the celebrations earlier this week.

However, the build-up to tonight’s quarter-final has started slower than the build-up did before the Germany game.

Popular parts of Bristol were still deserted this morning, devoid of the scenes of fans beginning their build-up to the game from the early hours as was seen on Tuesday.

However, excitement is set to build throughout this afternoon as the countdown to kickoff begins in earnest.

Ukraine v England in the Euro 2020 quarter-finals, from Rome, is live on BBC One tonight at 8pm, with coverage starting at 7pm.
