BRISTOL – A Bristol man was sentenced to a year in prison on Thursday for assaulting a woman in October and spitting on her.
Wilfredo Rodriguez, 30, of 85 Gridley St., accepted a plea bargain during a hearing in Bristol Superior Court, pleading guilty to one count of third-degree assault. He was sentenced to a year in prison with no probation.
According to state prosecutors, Rodriguez was involved in a domestic incident on Oct. 31, when he was intoxicated. Prosecutors said he knocked a cell phone out a woman’s hand, spit on her and struck her in the face.
Court officials said Thursday the victim said she does not have any safety concerns going forward.
Rodriguez, who has been held in custody since his arrest on April 5, will get jail credit back to that date.
During the hearing Thursday, charges of third-degree strangulation, second-degree threatening and second-degree breach were dropped in exchange for the guilty plea.
