Bristol reports record day for daily coronavirus cases

The City of Bristol has reported a record day for new daily coronavirus cases, according to the latest update.

Previously the highest number of daily positive tests was 1,373 on December 30, but that figure has been broken in the last 24 hours.

A total of 1,458 people tested positive within the City of Bristol since yesterday, bringing the total number of cases to 101,885.

South Gloucestershire almost recorded new highs as well with 775 new daily cases confirmed today.

The current high for South Gloucestershire is 778 cases on December 29.

North Somerset recorded 463 new cases, while Bath and North East Somerset recorded a further 445.

The UK recorded another 194,747 daily cases today with 150,232 of those coming from England.

There were two new deaths within the Bristol region, one from the City of Bristol and one from South Gloucestershire.

The number of positive test results in each area since the pandemic began is recorded below, with new positive test results in brackets.

  • Bath and North East Somerset: 36,604 (+445)

  • City of Bristol: 101,885 (+1,458)
  • North Somerset: 37,818 (+463)

  • South Gloucestershire: 57,257 (+775)

The number of deaths recorded in each area of Bristol since the beginning of the pandemic is as follows, with new deaths within 28 days of a positive test in brackets.

  • Bath and North East Somerset: 265 (-)
  • City of Bristol: 607 (+1)
  • North Somerset: 365 (-)
  • South Gloucestershire: 410 (+1)
