Bristol’s food scene is now fully established as one of the best in the UK thanks to a wealth of fantastic restaurants deciding to open here.
Casamia was yesterday named as one of the top 20 restaurants in the country, after being ranked as the best in the UK by Harden’s Best Restaurant Guide 2019, and today there’s reason to celebrate for two other highly-rated restaurants.
OpenTable, a popular restaurant booking service, has announced its 2019 Top 50 Fit for Foodies restaurants in the UK.
The annual list showcases the top 50 restaurants across the UK in the Fit for Foodies review category, reflected by more than 851,000 reviews submitted by verified OpenTable diners at over 7,600 restaurants.
Bristol is only one of two cities to have two restaurants in the top 10 – the other being Liverpool – once again highlighting the quality of our food scene.
Which Bristol restaurants made the top 10?
Both Wilson’s and Paco Tapas made the top 10, with the former coming in at number 4 and the latter at number 7.
Wilson’s opened on Chandos Road in 2016 and is the first venture for Jan Ostle and Mary Wilson.
Jan previously worked in London at Gordon Ramsay Royal Hospital Road and The Square, as well as The Hand and Flowers, Tom Kerridge’s two Michelin star restaurant in Marlow.
Since opening, the Redland bistro has earned widespread praise and plenty of glowing reviews, including being named one of the most underrated restaurants in the world by American TV channel CNN.
Paco Tapas is located next to the aforementioned Casamia and is run by the same highly qualified team.
It was awarded a Michelin star at the launch of the 2018 Michelin Guide in London, where judges described its food as “invigorating and bold”, adding it was cooked with “understanding and care”.
Dishes at Paco Tapas include the likes of stuffed quail with sobrasada and dates, octopas a la Gallega and Galician steak.

These reviews are a ‘trusted source for diners to turn to’
Adrian Valeriano, Vice President of OpenTable, said: “Verified diner reviews are incredibly important to us at OpenTable.
“Not only are these reviews a trusted source for diners to turn to when looking for their next great dining occasion, they are a way for diners to share their personal experiences of the restaurant.
“We’re extremely excited to share this Fit for Foodies list based on verified reviews and to see the list become even more representative of the whole of the UK foodie scene as we see more ambitious restaurants open outside of London.”
