Hundreds of revellers took part in the St Patrick’s Day parade through Bristol city centre today (March 13).
The marchers made their way through the city after starting at Old Market, to celebrate Ireland’s patron saint. St Patrick’s Day is not until March 17, but crowds of people flocked through the streets in anticipation of the day.
There were scenes of joy as marchers beat drums and performers danced in bright costumes. A person in a St Patrick costume led the march in an open-top vehicle, while another vehicle decked in Irish colours was also spotted.
Multiple generations of Irishmen took part, from older people to infants and their parents. St Patrick is celebrated every year for bringing Christianity to Ireland and, in popular mythology, driving the snakes out of the country.
