WINDHAM – State police are investigating a suspicious incident at a local apartment complex that has resulted in life-threatening injuries to a 2-year-old child.

Police responded to an incident at Scott Road in Windham, at the main entrance to the Windham Heights apartment complex early Wednesday morning.

The Connecticut State Police Major Crime Squad vehicle was stationed at the scene, while troopers were standing outside an apartment entrance.

State police at Troop K in Colchester responded to the scene at about 12:30 a.m.

The child was transported to an area hospital by the Willimantic Fire Department, according to Trooper Marc Petruzzi at the scene.

Some earlier news reports indicated that the child had died. But, the Associated Press is reporting that the child was in cardiac arrest when transported to the hospital The condition of the child has not been released.

No charges have been announced, according to the AP.
