A cyclist has been rushed to hospital with head injuries after a road traffic collision in Bristol this evening (August 21).
The collision happened in Ashley Down, close to Gloucestershire’s County Cricket Ground, at around 7.40pm this evening.
The cyclist, who has not been named, is believed to have been cycling at the corner of Dirac Road and Ashley Down Road when he was struck by a car being driven at that junction.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, and paramedics and police were called.
Pictures of the scene from local residents show police had closed the entrance to Dirac Road – a cul-de-sac off to the east of Ashley Down Road as it passes Muller House.
A collision investigation team were at the scene in heavy rain, along with a large number of emergency service vehicles.
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset police said an investigation is ongoing into the cause of the collision.
“We were called by the ambulance service at 7.45pm this evening to a report of a collision between a car and a cyclist on Ashley Down Road,” he said.
“The cyclist involved was taken to hospital with a head injury, and emergency services remain at the scene,” he added.
