Downpours are expected for most of today (Friday) before sunshine returns this weekend.

It’s going to be another wet and cloudy day in Bristol, with the biggest downpours expected around 4pm.

But forecasters at the Met Office are predicting warmer and drier conditions over the weekend.

It won’t feel anywhere as near as hot as the temperatures experienced during mid-August when the mercury soared to a sweltering 34C.

However, it should still be quite pleasant as the thermometer climbs to 18C on Sunday.

Wall-to-wall sunshine is expected on Saturday, when the mercury will peak at 17C.

The Met Office’s long-range forecast for Monday, September 7, through to Wednesday, September 16, predicts cloudy and dry conditions, but with the potential for heavy rain.

Despite this wet start to the period, more settled conditions are forecast from the West, with sunny spells.

While there will be scattered showers and strong winds, temperatures will be near normal “perhaps just above normal for a time when the rain moves in midweek.”

On average through September temperatures are around 18C, so a number of days where the temperatures are above this would feasibly be dubbed an Indian Summer.

UK weather forecast

Friday:

Dry and bright for many areas, with cloud and rain moving eastwards across southern UK. Further showers in north, perhaps becoming more widespread later.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Sunny spells and showers through the weekend with temperatures slightly below normal. Cloudier and breezy with rain in the north on Monday, but mostly dry and warmer in the south.
