“I absolutely love Giuseppe” – Bristol baker wins over judges and fans on Bake Off

Great British Bake Off contestant Giuseppe from Bristol has won over the judges and TV fans as a new series of the popular TV show began tonight (September 21).

Giuseppe Dell’Anno, an Emerson’s Green engineer and father-of-three, loves using Italian flavours in his bakes, while he also brings his engineer’s precision to the results.

Upon entering the bake-off tent for the first time, Giuseppe, originally from Italy, described the famous building as the “Sistene Chapel”.

And in round one – mini rolls – the Bristolian decided to bake delicate almond and orange sponges filled with ricotta cheese.

His creations were really well presented and wowed the judges, with Paul Hollywood describing the “beautifully flavoured” cakes as “elegant and classic, with a lovely swirl”.

However, Giuseppe ran into trouble in round two – malt loafs – when he realised he had never even heard of the raisin-filled bread treat.

Despite this, he gave the challenge a good crack, and received mixed reactions from the judges, with Paul Hollywood commending the “beautiful topping”, but Prue Leith was disappointed, believing the fruit inside was “not very evenly distributed”.

Giuseppe’s malt loaf was ranked 10 out of 12 by the judges.

For round three, when the bakers were asked to create an “anti-gravity illusion cake”, Giuseppe decided to bake a Jack and the Beanstalk fairytale scene dedicated to his three young boys.

The judges were impressed once again with Paul Hollywood describing his bake as “a great kids cake with superb flavour”, and Prue Leith labelling it “simply beautiful”.

Twitter users have also been getting behind Team Giuseppe, with Matty Robson writing: “I absolutely love Giuseppe on Bake Off so far!
