The case of a Redcliffe man alleged to have spat at police has been delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Alan Udeh, of Mitchell Lane, is accused of spitting at PC Scott Vivian in North Street, Bedminster, on March 29.

The 53-year-old allegedly targeted the officer near Back Road, six days after the Covid-19 lockdown was announced.

He was due to appear at Bristol Magistrates’ Court on April 16, charged with assaulting an emergency worker.

But the hearing was pushed forward to April 9 and then adjourned because of the coronavirus crisis, without Udeh making a plea.

He was bailed and told: “You will be contacted again to tell you when you should attend [court].”
