Police have issued on a statement on the Black Live Matters protest set to see hundreds of people march through Bristol today (June 7)
Avon and Somerset police acknowledge the demonstration – scheduled to start on College Green at 1pm – is “technically” a breach of coronavirus lockdown.
But the force recognises why people want to gather, with Supt Andy Bennett saying: “It’s important to stand up for fairness, equality and inclusion and we fully recognise the reasons why people will want to gather at College Green on Sunday.
“While mass gatherings are technically a breach of Government regulations we will take a pragmatic approach to policing the event and we’re liaising with the organisers and the local authority to ensure appropriate plans are in place.”
