Live: M48 Severn Bridge closed due to high winds

The Severn Bridge carrying the M48 has been closed in both directions due to high winds tonight (January 6). National Highways made the announcement just after 10pm.

As a result, motorists who were expecting to use the M48 via the Severn Bridge – linking Gloucestershire to Wales – have been advised to seek alternative routes. The closure comes after wind gust speeds of up to 47mph have been predicted by the Met Office for parts of Bristol and South Gloucestershire overnight between Friday January 6 and Saturday, January 7.

National Highways has stated they will “continue to monitor the speeds and as soon as it is safe we will reopen.”
