LIVE: M5 lanes closed near Portishead after vehicle fire

M5 traffic was stopped in North Somerset because of a vehicle fire this evening (Tuesday, November 22). It happened on the southbound side of the motorway at around 6.10pm.

Traffic was reportedly being held between junctions 19 and 20 on the M5. Two lanes are now closed. Traffic monitoring site Inrix reports: “Queueing traffic and two lanes closed due to vehicle fire on M5 Southbound between J19 A369 Martcombe Road (Portishead) and J20 B3133 Ettlingen Way (Clevedon). Travel time is 20 minutes.”

Lanes one and two (of four) are closed, all traffic was held before 18:10 until 18:20. Highways England tweeted: “Traffic has now been released on the #M5 southbound between J19 and J20 near #Bristol. Lanes 1 and 2 ( of 4) remain closed whilst emergency services continue to work at the scene. There are 20 minute delays on the approach to this incident.
