M4 and M5 traffic: All vehicles held as horses cross motorway – recap

There were delays on the M4 and M5 after traffic was held for horses to cross a major junction.

Drivers were stopped at the Almondsbury Interchange, M4 junction 20, after a horsebox broke down just before 6pm today (Sunday, October 3).

The animals have now been safely moved to another vehicle, but progress for motorists in the area was slow after the incident.

Traffic monitoring website Inrix issued an update to drivers hoping to pass through junction 20.

It said: “Slow traffic due to earlier broken down horsebox on M4 in both directions at J20 M5 J15 ( Almondsbury Interchange).

“All lanes have been re-opened in both directions. Traffic was held to allow safe transfer of horses into another vehicle, following a breakdown that was on the eastbound side.”
