An early morning crash between two HGV lorries has caused a partial closure on the M4 and extensive damage to the central reservation.
Traffic is still being released after an incident between two lorries at 3.30am on Saturday (April 2) on the M4 westbound near Swindon, between junction 15 A346 Marlborough Road (Swindon East) and junction 16 A3102 Swindon Road (Swindon West).
The road was closed earlier this morning to allow accident investigation work to take place although two out of three lanes remain shut. Westbound traffic is currently being diverted via junction 15, following a hollow triangle along the A419, A4259, B4289, B4006 and A3012 to rejoin the M4 at junction 16.
In a statement, National Highways said: “National Highways is advising drivers to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys following an incident earlier this morning which has closed the M4 between junction 15 (Marlborough, Swindon East) and junction 16 (Swindon West).”
Traffic reporting system Inrix said: “M4 Westbound closed due to accident investigation work from J15 A346 Marlborough Road (Swindon East) to J16 A3102 Swindon Road (Swindon West). Traffic is coping well.
“Following an accident involving two lorries at 03:30. The eastbound side has reopened with lanes two and three (of three) closed. Trapped traffic is still being released.”
A separate crash has been reported on the opposite side of the M4 on the eastbound route between junctions 15 and 16. Traffic is currently coping well.
