Man ‘behaving erratically’ in Bristol street arrested after sitting in the road

A man was arrested after having been reported acting ‘erratically’ in a Bristol street.

Trenchard Street near the Trenchard Street Car Park and the O2 Academy was closed from around 7.30am today (Tuesday, August 24) as police dealt with the incident.

Officers were called after members of the public reported seeing the man behaving in a ‘threatening manner to passers-by’.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary reported that the man had been arrested on suspicion of affray.

A spokesperson said: “Police were called at about 7.30am on Tuesday, August 24 by members of the public reporting a man behaving erratically in Trenchard Street, sitting in the road and behaving in a threatening manner to passers-by.

“Officers attended and located a man in Park Row who was arrested on suspicion of affray at 7.45am.

“He remains in police custody at the time of writing.

“Enquiries continue and officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or who has dashcam or CCTV footage of it. If you can help call 101 quoting reference 5221194857.”

This morning’s events caused disruption on the roads as it was reported that Perry Road, Park Row and Upper Maudlin Street were blocked while police attended.

Long delays were expected and motorists were advised to avoid the area, but it is believed the roads reopened shortly after the man was arrested.
