A man, believed to be from Somerset, is reportedly fighting for his life in a Greek hospital after being ‘punched’ outside a bar.
The 35-year-old was reportedly on the Greek island of Zakynthos (Zante) for a stag do.
It is believed the man was drinking at a bar in Laganas on Thursday night (May 23) before allegedly being threatened and pushed by two men, Somerset Live reports.
The altercation continued on the street outside the venue where he was punched, according to Greek news sources.
A video, which has circulated on social media, shows a man wearing a T-shirt, approached by two shirtless men.
One of the bare chested men is seen punching the victim in the head. The victim falls backwards off the pavement and onto the road.
He is said to have suffered a severe head injury and received medical attention at a local hospital.
He was later airlifted to a hospital in Athens on Friday (May 24) where he remains in a critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit, according to reports.
Greek media outlets are reporting that two men, aged 22 and 25, have been arrested in connection with the assault.
A spokesman for the Foreign Office confirmed the incident is being investigated by officials.
He told Somerset Live : “We are assisting the family of a British man who has been hospitalised in Greece, and are in contact with the hospital and local authorities.”
