This is the moment a cyclist performed a wheelie while pedalling along Gloucester Road with no lights or helmet at dusk.

Dash cam footage shows the man is barely visible, wearing dark clothing and nothing which illuminates his presence to drivers.

During the short clip, the cyclist lifts his front wheels off the carriageway while vehicles are overtaking him on the busy route, near the Golden Lion Pub.

All passing vehicles had their headlights on.

A witness, who captured the dangerous cycling – but did not wish to be named – said he hoped sharing his video would raise awareness.

He has reported the matter to Avon and Somerset Police.

The eye witness said: “Bristolian cycling is often commendable, however, they are let down by a flurry of reckless cyclists.

“With the low temperatures, dark evenings and congestion it amazes me that there are such a huge number of dangerous cyclists.

“I am a cyclist myself and a driver and I am shocked by the level of people that think it is acceptable to ride along the main roads of Bristol without a helmet, lights and seemingly little regard for tonnes of moving steel around them or their own vulnerability.

“Given the cold and wet weather at the moment and distinct lack of preparedness of the cyclist in the video, it may highlight to some, the driver’s view of these people and maybe just maybe make some of them think and save a life.”
