A garage says a man who fell through its skylight was dancing to music from a street festival.

The man was on the roof of A & M Motor Repair in York Street, St Werburgh’s, when it gave way under him and he plunged 18ft into the garage below.

Emergency services were called just before 7pm on Saturday, June 8, made their way through crowds at the nearby St Werburgh’s City Farm Summer Fair, then closed York Street at one end and broke down the garage door.

A & M director, Mr Ali, told Bristol Live that police informed him the man broke an arm and leg, as well as bruising ribs.

A police spokeswoman said the man’s injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing.

Mr Ali said: “The garage was closed, but the man decided he wanted to climb on our roof and have a dance.

“He fell through the skylight. My co-director arrived after the alarms went off.

“We didn’t know what was going on. We thought we were being burgled.

“It is bizarre. We don’t really tend to get people coming up on the roof.”

The businessman added that the man caused £200 worth of damage to a BMW in the garage, denting it in the fall.

Mr Ali says he is unsure how much it will cost to replace the skylight.

He says he is in discussion with Bristol City Council to discuss a fence around the building to protect it from a similar incident happening again.

“In 13 years, this is the first time anything like this has happened,” he said.
