Met Office forecasts how long the rain will last

People across the region woke up to some heavy rain today.

This came after the Met Office forecast thunderstorms for the South West, with some areas seeing up to 12 hours of rain.

But, after such a wet start of the day, how long will the rain last?

According to the Met Office, it will now be dry for most of the day in Bristol – except for a light shower at 11am and another at 4pm.

Tomorrow (July 29) will also be a largely dry day in the city, but there is a 30 per cent chance of a light shower at noon.

However, 15 hours of light showers are being forecast for Bristol on Friday (July 30), with the rain starting at 7am and continuing until 10pm.

The Met Office predicts it will be sunny in Bristol on Saturday (July 31), but changing to light showers by lunchtime – with a similar picture for Sunday (August 1).

Looking at other parts of the region, Gloucester will today see a dry morning followed by some thunder at 3pm and heavy rain at 4pm, but this is being forecast to stop at 6pm.

The Met Office forecasts Gloucester will have a sunny day tomorrow (July 29), changing to cloudy by lunchtime but with no rain on the cards.

However, Gloucester is being predicted to see heavy showers on Friday, changing to partly cloudy by nighttime.

In Somerset, Taunton will see some light rain between noon and 3pm and then again for an hour at 4pm.

Tomorrow will be a dry, sunny day in the town while heavy showers are being forecast for Friday, changing to clear by nighttime.

Today

Sunshine and showers through the day, with a persistent breeze.

Sunny spells with showers, often heavy and potentially thundery, moving in from the west throughout most of Wednesday. Feeling breezier in all areas, particularly along the coast, leaving it feeling cooler. Maximum temperature 21 °C.

Tonight

Showers gradually easing for most through the evening, but continuing into the early hours over parts of Cornwall and into the Bristol Channel. Some clear spells elsewhere and feeling fresher. Minimum temperature 11 °C.

Thursday

Starting largely dry, with sunny spells and perhaps the odd shower through the day. Cloud building in the late afternoon, ahead of further rain overnight. Breezy and feeling fresh. Maximum temperature 22 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday

Rain across the region overnight into Friday, with sunshine and showers, locally heavy and thundery following. Sunny spells and scattered showers through the weekend. Often breezy across the region.
