A South West MP has called for Boris Johnson to be removed as Prime Minister amid the ‘Downing Street parties’ fiasco.
Luke Pollard, Labour and Co-op MP for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport took to Twitter to publish his scathing thoughts on the Prime Minister and other rule breakers.
He has called on all his colleagues in the South West – which include MP North East Somerse Jacob Rees-Mogg and MP Liam Fox – to join his call for the PM to be removed.
Luke Pollard MP said in a Tweet: “Boris Johnson is unfit for office.
“Here’s my open letter to all Conservative MPs in the South West, asking them to put our region first and remove Boris Johnson as Prime Minister.”
Mr Pollard is not the first MP to take a swip at Boris Johnson this week as there is a growing rebellion amogst MP’s against ‘Plan B’ and the Christmas party mess.
Already Somerton and Frome Conservative MP David Warburton has slammed ‘Plan B’ saying he can’t support the “confused, contradictory, arbitrary and wholly disproportionate Plan B”.
In Gloucestershire, the Conservative Forest of Dean MP Mark Harper said he doesn’t support Plan B while speaking in the House of Commons.
Also MP for The Cotswolds Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown told the BBC Newsnight programme he would “vote, and hopefully speak, against the new restrictions in the House of Commons next week.
Luke Pollard’s open letter asks his fellow MP’s to join his call for a new prime minister.
The letter says: “I’m writing this open letter to all of the Conservative MPs representing communities in the South West.
“The last week has I think demonstrated that Boris Johnson is unfit for office.
At present, the evidence seems to suggest he has lied about the Christmas parties that took place breaking Covid restrictions in Downing Street last year, and about the donations he received to renovate his Downing Street flat.
“Boris Johnson’s positive as Prime Minister is untenable – he has to go.
“Most worryingly, I fear that the Prime Minister’s actions are damaging our ability to fight Covid.
“As the Omicron variant spread further, it is necessary that further measures to contain it are needed to be put in place.
It continues: “The Prime Minister has demonstrated by his actions that he lacks the moral authority now to introduce the COVID measures we need.
“The public are rightly sceptical that he and his aides will not follow the rules the rest of the country will be asked to follow.
“The British public have been generous in giving the Prime Minister the benefit of the doubt of his poor handling of the COVID pandemic, awarding multi-million pound contracts to Tory donors and in defending the actions of Dominic Cummings.
“That benefit of doubt has expired – the public are furious that while they gave up their Christmases last year, obeyed the rules, missed family funerals and the chance to say good bye to loved ones, there were parties in Downing Street.
“The PM’s team have known for a whole year about these parties – they also should go.

“At a time of national emergency, we need a Prime Minister that commands respect, authority, and tells the truth.
“So I am asking my Conservative colleagues and friends in the South West: put our region and our country before Party, and sack Boris Johnson.
“It is time to send a message to the Prime Minister and those rule-breakers around him: the party is over.”
The PM has always insisted that no rules were broken, and has ordered an inquiry into the reports of an illegal Christmas party in Downing Street last year.
Mr Johnson told Parliament he has asked Cabinet Secretary Simon Case “to establish all the facts and to report back as soon as possible.”
He added if rules were broken “then there will be disciplinary action for all those involved”.
