An award-winning burger chef is up and running in his new restaurant, serving up another popular American delicacy.
Alex Hayes has opened Dog Town at Wapping Wharf, just around the corner from his burger bar Squeezed, which is now firmly established as one of the best in Bristol.
There are four hot dogs to choose from, ranging in price from £7 for the ‘Bandy Bandy’ up to £7.90 for the ‘Murrarana’, alongside two varieties of fries.
Two of the dogs can be made vegetarian and the other two can be made vegan.
To wash the food down, customers can order a beer slushy made using Wiper & True’s York Street Helles lager, or go for a non-alcoholic version of the refreshing drink.
A tenner will get you a meal deal with a hot dog, fries and non-alcoholic slushy, or for an extra £2 you can get a boozy deal.
Alex has teamed up with Henry Revell from Beer Necessities and Ben Nash, one of his chefs at Squeezed, to launch Dog Town in the shipping container formerly home to Gopal’s Curry Shack.
The slushies are rustled up by Henry, who worked as a brewer before launching Beer Necessities, also based at Wapping Wharf.
“It feels great to be up and running and we’ve had some great feedback already,” said Alex, who was named Burger Chef of the Year at the National Burger Awards 2019.
“We’ve always been surprised that there aren’t many restaurants in Bristol that serve top quality hot dogs, and the ones that do seem to have them as a bit of an aside on the menu.
“That’s why we wanted to take the plunge and launch Dog Town, which I see as a continuation of Squeezed.”
