A person has died after being hit by a train.
A statement has been released by British Transport Police, who say they were called to the line between Bristol to Swindon at 5.50 am this morning (May 25) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
They said: “Paramedics also attended and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Multiple railway services were affected including Great Western Railway passengers travelling between London Padding and Bristol temple meads stations.
Railway bosses warned travellers that services may be cancelled, with delays of more than 30mins for trains and disruptions aspected to last until 9.00 am. However, all lines have since reopened and services have resumed as normal.
According to the National Railway site, customers may be entitled to compensation if their journeys were affected. They are advised to keep their tickets in order to make a claim.
