Major damage has been caused to the roof of the Guildhall in Bristol city centre, following a major fire in the early hours of this morning.
Emergency services were called to the blaze in Small Street at around 1.40am on Sunday (March 15).
Avon Fire and Rescue Service said that due to the structural stability of the building and extensive spread of fire, firefighters were withdrawn from the property for their own safety and are working from outside of the property.
At the height of the blaze, around 50 firefighters were at the scene and a nearby student accommodation block had to be evacuated.
The fire has now been extinguished but not before parts of the roof of the Grade II-listed building had collpased.
Pictures have been posted on social media by Yate and Nailsea fire stations revealing the extent of the damage.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway and streets around the building remain closed at this time.
