Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan and weatherman Alex Beresford were at loggerheads once again this morning (January 22) .
‘Megxit’ was one of the topics of debate on the ITV show, which Piers Morgan has made his feelings very clear about.
However, Bristolian Alex had some issues over the coverage of Meghan Markle’s and Prince Harry’s decision to step down as senior royals, Liverpool Echo reports.
Piers said to Alex: “In the middle of all the Meghan Markle debate, I was quite interested in your take of that.
“I don’t want to put words in your mouth but you thought there was a racial tinge to some of the coverage.”
Alex said: “I said you couldn’t completely confirm whether it was racial or not but racist or not, the headlines have certainly been on the bias side.
“They have been quite negative and I think once you start to feel that way it’s hard to prove that it’s racist.
“I think for people of colour it’s a feeling.”
Piers interrupted Alex saying: “Hang on, this is where I have a problem with this, the point surely is she is a member of the royal family, a public figure and he is too.
“But for 18 months they had tremendously positive coverage and I would argue as a journalist that the coverage after that didn’t suddenly get racist.
“The coverage got more negative because of their behaviour.
“Now how do you cover someone who is not white in that circumstance without people thinking as you said that subliminally there may be racial bias behind it.
“But I would genuinely argue that it didn’t have anything to do with it.”
