A 28-year-old man has been arrested after a woman was sexually assaulted earlier this month.

Detectives have been given more time to question the man in connection with the attack on Ashley Road, in St Paul’s, during the early hours of Saturday, February 1.

The woman was assaulted while walking home from a night out.

Her shouts alerted nearby residents who called 999 and reported seeing a man making off shortly afterwards.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Constabulary confirmed the victim is being offered support.

A spokesman said: “A warrant of further detention was granted by magistrates this morning, allowing officers to question the man until 7pm tomorrow (February 19).

“We’d like to thank the public and the media for sharing our appeals for information.”
