Recap: M4 traffic held after crash near major interchange

All traffic on the westbound carriageway on the M4 was held after a crash near junction 21 (Awkley Interchange) this early evening (January 3). The crash was first reported at around 6.25pm today, with reports stating the incident took place in lane two of the two available carriageways.

Congestion reportedly stretched back near to the M5 interchange. As a result, motorists in the area experienced some delays and additional travel time to their normal route as emergency services attended the scene.

The latest update on Inrix, the traffic monitoring site, says: “All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to accident on M4 Westbound near J21 M48. Congestion to J20 (M5 interchange).

“Traffic held around 18:25 near the exit slip for an accident in lane (two of) two.”

An update from the website posted just after 8pm said traffic was easing in the area.
