SOUTHINGTON – Police have charged a local man with being in possession of child pornography.

John Starrs, 50, of 334 Blue Hills Drive, was taken into custody Thursday on charges of third-degree possession of child pornography, voyeurism and disseminating voyeuristic materials.

Police said they began an investigation in September upon receiving information leading them to believe Starrs was in possession of images of child pornography and had been involved in sharing them on an adult-oriented website.

During the investigation, detectives seized electronic items from Starrs while executing a search warrant at his home. The electronics were examined by Southington police and the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection. Investigators said they confirmed the devices had several images and a video file on them that were considered child pornography.

Police then sought a warrant for Stars’ arrest, serving him Thursday. He is free after posting $75,000 bond, and is scheduled to appear in Bristol Superior Court on July 8.

The arrest warrant affidavit has been ordered sealed by a judge, so no additional information was available Friday.
