A major Clifton route will stay closed into rush hour on Monday (October 21) following the removal of a boulder.

Bristol City Council closed Bridge Valley Road and put temporary traffic lights in place on the A4 Portway throughout this weekend.

Council contractors dealt with a huge boulder which had been threatening to crash down the Avon Gorge.

Now a council spokesman has confirmed the closure of Bridge Valley Road will continue into Monday and impact rush hour traffic.

“The extension to these works is due to the need to continue surveying the area for any further issues following the works to remove the boulder this weekend,” he said.

There are likely to be significant delays in the Portway and Clifton areas tomorrow morning.

The council says it will provide a further update once an assessment of the area is complete tomorrow.
