BRISTOL – Winners, an Off-Track Betting business, closed on June 12.

Mayor Ellen Zoppo-Sassu said that owner Ted Taylor, decided not to renew his lease last week at 16 Barlow St.

“After 40 years of being in the betting business, we wish Taylor well. We see a lot of closings and openings in Bristol and there’s different factors for why these things happen. It’s just a part of economic development,” Zoppo-Sassu said.

For those with cash winning tickets, visit nearby venues in New Britain, Waterbury and Torrington. The remaining employees were transferred to the other venues.

According to the Connecticut State Department of Consumer Protection, the gross sales of Off-Track Betting have decreased by almost 18% since 2010.

If a local business is experiencing financial difficulties, the mayor of Bristol encourages businesses to reach out to her office or the Bristol Development Authority as a resource. The Bristol Authority Development can be reached at 860-584-6185, or the Mayor’s Office at 860-584-6250.
