ARCHWAY School has received a new OFSTED report showing ‘significant improvement’.
The school has been successful in returning a ‘good’ rating in its latest OFSTED inspection, showing ‘rapid improvement’ from the school’s last inspection in March 2018.
The School recently received a full inspection which entails a rigorous two day process involving a team of four inspectors.
What do OFSTED reports focus on?
- Behaviour and attitudes of the students
- The provision for Sixth Form students
- Personal development opportunities
- Leadership and management, and most significantly
- The quality of teaching and learning
In all of the categories, the school has been judged as Good, representing significant and sustained progress since the previous inspection in 2018.
The judgement supports the hard work and dedication that the whole staff have put in to the school, particularly through the disruption brought on by Covid.
“Our headteacher, Kieron Smith and his team have worked tirelessly to raise expectations within the school and the local community,” said Chair of Governors, Stewart King.
“The last couple of years have been particularly challenging with the COVID pandemic but pupils, parents and teachers have all pulled together to ensure our children receive the best possible education.
“Archway is proud to be part of the Stroud community and to be able to offer an excellent education for any child and their family in the local area.”
Kieron Smith, who has been headteacher since September 2020, said: “As the only 11-18 comprehensive school in Stroud, we are extremely pleased that the team recognised the considerable effort that the entire school community has invested and how the leadership team has guided the school’s development.
“Stroud should be proud to have a genuine choice of quality schools in the town. I was particularly impressed with how the inspection team provided our students with the opportunity to describe their experiences of Archway School.”
The judgement means that the school will not receive another inspection for four years.
Archway School is a co-ed comprehensive school which this year celebrates 60 years of providing education for Stroud and the surrounding areas.
