THIS week an Auster AOP6 aircraft will fly into Cotswold Gliding Club at Aston Down airfield to commemorate its first flight into the same airfield on the same date in 1946 just after the end of WWII.
On Thursday (June 24), proud owner is Kevin Hale will be flying his aircraft, which bears the registration TW536 from Swindon, where it is now based.
TW536 is a very well-known Auster nationally and is finished in 657 squadron camouflage colours, so it should be a splendid sight to see this historic aircraft landing again where its service life began.
Kevin is also planning to bring a 75th birthday cake with him so that all those present can celebrate TW536’s 75th birthday.
The estimated time of arrival, weather permitting, is 11am.
