It is believed Prince Louis, aged four, had been surviving out as a stray for some time before arriving at the Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home, which is based in Cambridge near Slimbridge.
The ‘extremely unwell’ Maine Coon was named Prince Louis in honour of the Coronation by volunteers.
He came to the centre with surface wounds from repeated cat fighting, dirt and grime embedded in his matted coat, pus in his eyes, nasal discharge, wheezy breathing, and a heart murmur.
Louis was diagnosed with Entropion in both eyes, a ‘extremely painful’ condition in which the eyelid is turned inwards against the eyeball which required an expensive surgery as well as various veterinary treatments.
He has now undergone surgery and is said to be “doing amazingly well” and on the mend.
CDCH Cattery Lead Mina Fuge, said: “Due to the amazing generosity of our supporters, Louis has been able to receive the treatment and surgery he desperately needed and is now coming to the end of his recovery.
“We are overwhelmed by the amount of support we have received for our giant boy Louis.
“He is doing amazingly well, and the surgery could not have gone better.
“Since Louis’s surgery has been completed, his eyes are wide open, clean, and healthy and he is able to see clearly without any discomfort.
“Even though he arrived in our care in a bad way, he has always been such a happy fun-loving boy who wants nothing more than playtime and cuddles.
“We are so thankful for the support we have received for Louis, and know that he is also very appreciative of the love, kindness, and generosity shown to him by you, our supporters.”
A CDCH spokesperson said: “We have been blown away by the support Prince Louis received.
