Chesterton residents have been left to battle against the cold following two power cuts in the space of 48 hours.

A power cut on Friday night has been followed by another one today (Sunday).

According to the Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks website, the GL71SH, GL71SL and GL71SN areas are known to be affected.

Today’s power cut started just before 5pm. Engineers are aiming to have power restored by 8.30pm.

Chesterton councillor Roly Hughes is among those suffering from a loss of power.

He said: “I have a lot of upset residents, who like me have freezers full of food.

“The heating is controlled by gas, but needs electricity to run it.

“I am getting a lot of comments about it. This is the 21st century and things like this should not be happening, especially with the weather we are getting at the moment.
