A Cirencester-based food producer has won two top awards at the 2019 Quality Food and Drink Awards.

Just Wholefoods, a producer of organic and plant-based food is celebrating its achievements following the awards ceremony in London.

The first award in the confectionery category was won by Just Wholefoods’ organic and vegan Frooty Fruits, which fought off stiff competition from Marks and Spencers’ Percy Pig Chews and ASDA’s Party Llamas.

As well as being gelatine free, Frooty Fruits are also palm oil and gluten free.

The second, the Food Hero Award was won by previous owners and founders of the company, Anne Madden and James White.

The award recognised Anne and James for their significant contribution to the organic and plant based food industry, having brought one of the first organic and vegan gummy bears to the UK market – producing it themselves in Cirencester along with the other 15 plant based products they have introduced to the market over their 30 year tenure.

Anne Madden and James White, founders of Just Wholefoods said: “James and I had no idea that Joe had put us forward for this award.

“We were delighted and very touched to have been recognised in this way.

“When we started Just Wholefoods back in 1989 we had no idea that our company would become such a popular brand and we feel extremely proud to have achieved this”.

Joe Snow, who recently took on ownership of business from Anne and James who remain integral to the day to day running of Just Wholefoods, collected the awards which are one of the most recognisable marks of excellence for retailers and the food industry.

Joe, now director of Just Wholefoods, said: “I’m over the moon for Anne & James – I can’t think of two people more deserving of winning this award.

“To produce such a range of innovative products themselves is unbelievably impressive.

“Their knowledge and passion for food is outstanding and this is what has kept them in good stead whilst other businesses have come and gone.

“It is testament to their thorough understanding of all things organic and plant based that I am constantly calling upon their wisdom.

“They are truly the kindest and hardest working people I have ever had the pleasure to meet and work with.

“They are thoroughly deserving of the Food Hero Award, as they have been significant trailblazers for the now burgeoning plant-based and organic market.”

On the award winning Frooty Fruits: “It goes without saying that I am thrilled for this recognition.

“It is testament to the quality and care we put into our sweets and is the cherry on top of a great year full of new listings, awards and interest in the Just Wholefoods brand.

“Whether you are or aren’t vegan, young or adult, our organic sweets appeal to all!
