You have probably been thinking a lot about race lately.
Many people assume that racism is no longer a problem.
However, the Black Lives Matter demonstrations have given the BAME community the opportunity to talk about their experiences.
We have heard shocking stories in videos circulated on social media.
Many of us might think “Racism is bad but I’m not racist,” and leave it at that.
But that is just not enough.
It is important to acknowledge that every white person has benefitted from systemic racism that exists or has existed in the world. We ought to feel uncomfortable about this and not just accept it as the way things have always been.
Equally important to remember is that we do not lose out on anything when black people, or any other minority group, get more rights.
We will all benefit from a more equal, tolerant and diverse world.
So let us all do our bit to make sure the momentum gained over the last few weeks amounts to lasting change.
