THE crime rate in Stroud rose last year, new crime statistics show, reflecting an increased police workload across England and Wales.
The Office for National Statistics’s crime data shows that police recorded 4,965 crimes in the area during the 12 months to September.
That meant a rate of 42 offences for every 1,000 households in the area.
This is half of the rate of the England and Wales average, which is 85 per 1,000.
In the previous 12 month period, 4,698 offences were recorded in the Stroud area.
