A KEY decision decide on who will run Gloucestershire Relationship and Rescue Service really does has been delayed until next year.
Gloucestershire’s Authorities and Crime Commissioner, Martin Surl, is at odds offering Gloucestershire Local Council compared to who should govern GFRS.
The local authority or council is in charge of the fire service right now and rejects Mr Surl’s idea that his office is going to take control of its governance alternately.
Mr Surl has previously said modifications to first aid he would implement if the services came under his authority might be lead to “greater public safety”, but the county council contends the proposals would purchase price taxpayers as much as £15. 7million.
Writing to Mr Surl, Policing and Fire Minister Nick Hurd said the video call to change the future of the fire service won’t be made until following your PCC elections in 2020, due to “significant parliamentary combined with policy pressures”.
In 2017 the Government questioned Mr Surl to investigate in spite of whether to merge the governance of GFRS and the police .
The county authorities has strongly stated the tonneau’s opposition to Mr Surl’s proposal, and both have placed their cases to Home Secretary Sajid Javid who will develop the final say.
Gloucestershire’s PCC said: “Obviously, I am disappointed but not disappointed given the situation in which the United states government currently finds itself and also the other demands on your dog’s time.
“It will also be frustrating, I’m convinced, for the majority of those who work in the police and fire provider, as well as the general public, who his or her part in the consultation furthermore expressed their support to find change.
“Yet this delay also provides an opportunity. Many of the ideas the county council proposed inside opposition to change were in the past contained in the business case Naturally i submitted to the Home Secretary. ”
Gloucestershire County Council has been went over to for comment.
In the letter, Mr Hurd wrote: “I recognise work that you have put into developing, drawing in and consulting on this market case. However , it is now difficult for the Department to assess fireman governance proposals ahead of the May perhaps 2020 elections.
“I realize all the hard work that has reduce into this and the stairways you have taken to engage with the neighborhood and local stakeholders on your venture case.
“We remain fully committed to unexpected emergency services collaboration and to most of the policy of enabling PCCs to take on fire governance. Functioning forward to considering the proposal while any updates to it wedding reception May 2020 PCC elections”.
