Demolition work on the Old Memorial Hospital in Cirencester is to begin next week.

Last year, councillors agreed proposals to knock down the historic building to create additional parking in the town.

The project started today as contractors set up on site, with work to demolish the building to begin on Monday.

Contractors working on the site are due to finish in December 2019 with the new car park providing 36 more parking spaces, lighting, landscaping and improved pedestrian safety.

As part of the proposals other buildings on the site, the cottages and the World War 2 air raid shelter, will remain intact.

Cotswold District Council apologise for any inconvenience the building works might cause.
