The police were called to the scene at Matson, Gloucester at 4am this morning.
A weapon was allegedly discharged at a front door and a dog inside the address sustained an injury and was taken to the vet for treatment.
No other injuries were reported.
Armed officers attended and there was a large police presence in the area while enquiries took place.
Officers are in the early stages of an investigation and extra patrols will be taking place in the area.
The police want to hear from anyone who lives in the area who may have CCTV or doorbell footage from between 2.30am and 4.30am this morning.
