POLICE are warning dog owners in Cirencester to be vigilant after a number of suspicious incidents in the town recently.
A statement from Gloucestershire police said: “Over the past few days, dog owners in Cirencester have reported a number of suspicious incidents to police.
“It was reported a van driver had been asking people about their pets as well as taking photos of properties where dogs are kept.
“The Force has also received reports that fences at these properties have been marked with chalk.”
Police warned dog owners to be vigilant last month following reports of dogs having been stolen.
A woman from Cirencester has also warned residents to be on their guard after people in a white van approached her dog while it was in their garden.
The mother from Cirencester said her son went to see what their dog was barking at when he saw people looking into their garden earlier today.
One of the men told the woman’s son he had a nice dog before leaving.
She said: “I know a lot of people have mentioned about a white van that is looking for dogs in people’s gardens.
“Well today it happened to us.
“They looked into the garden and spoke to my son. I have looked on my gate and there is no chalk maybe that is because during all of this I haven’t let the dog into the garden on his own.
“Please keep extra vigilant to keep our puppies safe.”
If anyone notices anything suspicious, they should contact Gloucestershire Constabulary on 101.
