One person has sadly died following a serious collision on the M5.

Two cars were involved in the crash between junction 12 (Quedgeley / Hardwicke) and junction 11A (Gloucester / Cirencester) northbound at around 8.10am this morning.

An air ambulance attended the scene, but sadly one person was declared dead a short time later.

Officers are currently making contact with their next of kin so further details cannot be released at this time.

The driver of the other vehicle suffered non-serious injuries but is being checked over at hospital.

The northbound carriageway remains closed between junction 12 and junction 11A while a serious collision investigation takes place.

Details of the diversion route in place can be found here: http://m.highwaysengland.co.uk/#news

The southbound carriageway is now open.

Trapped traffic is being turned around on the northbound carriageway.
