EGYPT Mill will be changing hands after a century of ownership within the same family.

Located in Nailsworth, Egypt Mill is a thriving hotel, wedding venue, riverside bar and bistro.

It was converted into a hospitality hub by Philippa and Steve Webb in 1984.

Hotel director Matt Webb announced on Facebook yesterday that Egypt Mill will be taken over by WH Brakspear & Sons.

He wrote: “The decision for us as a family, to sell our heritage, was and will always be, a hard decision to make.

“However we felt it was necessary to ensure the continued success and on-going expansion of the Mill.

“The new owners are well placed to fulfil the full potential of the Mill and its location.

“WH Brakspear & Sons is a family owned business that has been based in Henley on Thames since it was established in 1779.

“Brakspear own of over 130 individual pubs, restaurants and inns, including the Frogmill in Andoversford and are excited to be taking ownership of the Mill on the 23rd March.

“We would like to thank all of our customers, staff and suppliers over the years, who have contributed a major part to the success of the Mill and would like to extend a warm welcome to Brakspear. We wish them our best wishes for the future.

“The Mill, as it is affectionately known, will continue to serve the needs of the local area, and those wishing to visit the area.

“There are many aspects to the Mill, one of which is providing a wonderful riverside location, for people’s special day.

“The high level of service and quality of food will continue under the new ownership, ensuring existing and future weddings remain that very special day.

“The Railway Hotel Apartments will continue to serve the local need for short or long stays, corporate accommodation and leisure vacations.

“The continued close but separate relationship with Egypt Mill will continue, complimenting each other’s offerings.”
