Explosion at Berkeley home injures resident

Police and fire services attended an explosion at a house in Berkeley this afternoon.

They were called to a property in Church View, Newport following reports of a gas explosion at 1:45pm.

One person, the only member of the household, was injured and taken to Southmead Hospital for the treatment of two burns.

Police have closed the cul-de-sac while enquiries are conducted into the cause of the explosion.

“There is no wider risk to the public, however members of the public are asked to avoid the area whilst the investigation takes place,” said a spokesperson for Gloucestershire Constabulary.
