Former mayor donates piano to care home in Fairford

Hyperion House has been a focal part of Fairford for over 300 years but, for nearly 30 years, has been providing compassionate care and support to the elderly and their families. It is a cosy, comfy home-from-home for local people that need dedicated care such as respite and day care and nursing and dementia care.

Residents of the family-owned Care Home have always enjoyed being a part of the Fairford community – to go on local outings and to have local entertainment events come to them. However, over the last 18 months, this has not been possible but, as Covid restrictions ease, there are plans to increase community involvement again.

Former Mayor of Fairford, Caroline Mumford, has donated a beautiful piano to Hyperion House for the enjoyment of the residents. It is a Bentley piano made around the 1930s at Woodchester Mill near Stroud. Caroline said: “We bought the piano about 20 years ago from a charity auction on behalf of Fairford scouts, then our children practised on it when they were growing up and it has also spent some time being used in the Palmer Hall. So it does have a very local history and I am pleased that it will be going back into the community.”

The piano has now found a new home in the small lounge area just off the Care Home’s dining room. Hyperion resident, Ann, who is a former piano teacher, has been playing some popular songs on the piano from music sheets for other residents to sing along to. “This has certainly lifted the spirits of our residents and has created a wonderful fun atmosphere for us all to enjoy,” said Tanya Shukla, Director of Diva Care Limited that owns Hyperion House. “I am very grateful to Caroline for donating this wonderful piano that our residents will get great pleasure from.”

As well as sing-alongs and piano music, residents of Hyperion House can enjoy a whole range of other stimulating activities specifically selected to suit all tastes. The friendly, fully trained staff in the cosy, comfy Care Home are dedicated to providing 24/7 personal care and are always on hand for chats and a friendly banter. They take a pride in delivering nursing, residential and dementia care tailored to the needs of each resident. Rest assured – Hyperion House will not let you down when looking after your loved ones.

The Care Home’s values are based on family traditions and home comforts with home-cooked meals prepared onsite by the Hyperion’s own talented chef. The spacious bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms can be designed to the residents’ own requirements – just like in their own home!

Hyperion House, that covers not only Fairford, but also Lechlade, Highworth and surrounding villages, is now accepting more admissions. Please get in touch to have a chat over a cup of tea and a slice of freshly baked cake by phoning 01285 712349.
